STYLE 101: BACK TO THE BASICS

For the past couple of days, it has been cold and snowing like no ones business (hence of doing a little mini shoot in my basement), which has also given me plenty of time to think. And well, what I found myself reverting back to were the basic essentials of everyday style. Growing up, my parents bought me clothes without really considering my size, so you can only imagine for most of my childhood I wore clothes that were quite unflattering, beyond my years and well-- big.
When I proceeded into my high school years, I made it imperative that I would find where I fit in, in terms of style and size.

By graduation, I was undoubtedly fond of jeans that suited me like a glove. No matter what, I would pair jeans with a graphic-tee, tanks, dresses, pullovers, varsity jackets and whatever else was parable with my favorite denim. For many reasons, a basic pair of good quality jeans made me feel that I could embark my day with both comfort, authentic style and freedom to express both the tomboy in me, without neglecting the girly side of me.

Five years later, I find myself building any outfit around whatever pair of jeans I am rocking that day. Because to me, denim has become a basic essential that will always hold together an outfit as long as you permit it to.
In these photos, I am wearing the most basic outfit known to man-kind, the key essentials to everyday style --denim and a boyfriend tee. Yet you should never underestimate the power of less is more.
Especially in a fearless generation where piling on layers, textures and prints is almost the norm'; I also advise to be just as fearless when dressing in the realms of minimalism.
